Tales from the Graveyard Shift: Ghouls is a contemporary paranormal novel where witches, Mages, elves, were-folk, dwarves, psychics and other practitioners of magic run amok! Okay, not really amok. Crystal LaFarge is a Level 5 magic practitioner and a psychic. As head of the State’s Paranormal Investigative Team (SPIT for short), she’s seen a lot of paranormal activity, brought some illegal magic users to justice, and secretly lusted after Captain Brian Booker for some time.
Brian Booker is a by-the-book cop. He doesn’t take chances in the field, and seemingly doesn’t take them with his love life, either. Though he and Crystal grew up in the same neighborhood, they weren’t really close as Brian and his twin sister are the same age as Crystal’s older brother. Brian is a Level 2 practitioner and perfectly happy to maintain that state. He’s not really into the practice of magic, just finds it helpful when dealing with those he has to arrest.
Ulrich is a Level 8 Mage. There are not many who have attained that ranking, and they, along with all other high-level Mages are ruled by the Mage Council. Ulrich has been sent to find and contain the Level 8 who is using his powers for personal gain. Instead, he finds Crystal and Brian. Ulrich knows that together, the three of them can combine their unique powers and defeat anyone who stands against them. Now he has to convince the reluctant psychic and the recalcitrant cop that he knows what he’s talking about.
